We are looking forward to
another exciting summer at the Oakbrook Swim and Tennis Club! We wanted to get an update out to you all, so
you are aware of some of the exciting plans we have for the upcoming season!

Activities:

Mark your calendars for Saturday,
May 14th – its Member’s Work at the pool day from 9:00-1:00
pm. Come on out to help get the pool
ready for opening day. Remember, your
kids can get service hours too.

Aqua Zumba
and Hollie Schutte will be
back! Get yourself and your friends
ready to take the plunge on Wednesday, June 8th. Sign up at the front desk. Prices will be the same as last year.

We are pleased to announce
that the 2010 Movie Night Road show was a huge success and we would like to
thank our sponsor, Scott Moore at Kentucky Farm Bureau. We would love to bring it back again this
year. We are looking for anyone that
would be interested in sponsoring this event.

A few other things worth
mentioning: Many thanks in advance to
Jennifer Cheek for putting together the new Oakbrook Swim and Tennis Club
Facebook page. If you have any photos you would like for us to post, please
email them to melinhamm3@insightbb.com. We also wanted to remind you about that
wireless internet is available. Come on up and let the kids swim while you
finish up your work. Lastly, remember
that we welcome coolers, food and drink at our pool; and we also have very
reasonable concession stand prices compared to other local clubs!
Membership
2010 Update:

If you pay your dues by
the early bird deadline, each member family will receive 5 free guest passes!

Membership 2010 Update:
§ 37 New Members in 2010!
§ 277 Active Memberships
§ 80 Inactive Memberships (down from 106 in 2009).
§ Inactive memberships represent over $32,000 in potential
income per year for the club.
§ We have shifted the trend by DECREASING the sell list by about
25%.
§ The website sell list has been a huge boost to obtaining new
memberships.

Guest Fees:

To stay competitive with
other neighboring pools, the board has voted to change our guest fees this
year. The new guest fees will be as
follows:
$7 weekdays
and $4 after 5 pm
$8 weekends
and holidays and $4 after 5 pm
Holiday’s include:
Memorial Day (May 30th), Independence Day (July 4th)
And Labor Day (September 5th).

Dear Members,
This is to
update you on our pool operations & financial situation.
We ended the
2010 season with no operating reserves, as we did the prior year. We did renegotiate our line of credit loan
with Heritage Bank, but it is now set up as a 3-year short-term mortgage.
We were able
to accomplish many goals during last season, including:
- Renewed, improved and new
activities.
- Sand blasting, repairing leaks,
and re-priming & repainting the pools (between the ’09 close & the
’10 open).
- Began the reorganization of the
by-laws and saw the membership pass several amendments.
- Restored the enforcement of
several sections of the by-laws that had gone into disuse, especially with
regard to certificates and the need to pay dues & fees whether the
membership is used or not.
- Improved marketing to the public
in order to attract new members.
- Stressed frugality in operations
to stretch our dollars.
We discovered
additional leaks in the plumbing under the pool that will need repair before we
can open this spring. We hope to have
this resolved as soon as the weather allows, but it will be another unusual
maintenance expense.
We concluded
that we had to raise dues by $15.00 per membership to begin generating revenue
to help with rebuilding a maintenance fund for the future as the facility
ages. This is less than 5% and no dues
increases have occurred for a few years.
We are
planning various activities to bring in more money and attract new
members. Please help the effort by
promoting Oakbrook to friends, neighbors, acquaintances and especially those
with kids who need a pool & a swim team!
