Letter from the President
Welcome back for the opening of the 22nd season of the Oakbrook Swim and Tennis Club!
This also marks the 22nd anniversary for some members and we’re sure that you have many fond memories from your years at our wonderful facility.
I would like to thank the outgoing Board Members for the generous donation of their expertise and especially their time in trying to make Oakbrook Swim and Tennis the best club in the area for our families to enjoy. Paul Rodgers, our Director for Maintenance, has been an invaluable help, saving the Club considerable effort and cash during his time as a Director. THANKS, PAUL! When you see him around the pool you may want to thank him as well. Paul has said he’ll still help out when he can, but his workload has changed at lot and he can no longer serve on the Board. We continue to call upon our past volunteers for advice and guidance, even if we can’t convince them to re-up!
Please welcome our latest volunteer to the Board – Melinda Hamm has taken up the challenge of being our Activities Director! We’re looking forward to a great summer of fun activities, Melinda! Remaining on the Board are Jill Hamlin as Secretary, Marilyn Latta as Treasurer, and Eileen Blades as Vice President. I will continue serving as President of your Board for the 2010 season. Chris Konerman will continue as our pool manager. With the changes to the by-laws in February, our next Annual Meeting will be in August, and we can have it at the pool!
We are now in need of a Volunteer Director to take on Maintenance coordination.
If you have driven by the swim club recently, you may have noticed that the cover is off the pool and we are getting the facility ready – watch for new paint!
Finally, we had been hoping to have the Tenth Occasional Oakbrook Golf Outing on a late July Saturday. This was always a fun day of golf at Boone Links, followed by a steak dinner back at the pool with plenty of refreshments and prizes. Unfortunately, past outings have been break-even at best, and since we can’t afford to subsidize greens fees, we are skipping the outing again this year – we’ll revisit it again in early ‘11 to see if it’s feasible for next season . . .
I look forward to seeing you up at the club. Let’s all work together for another great poolside summer!

We still have memberships available for purchase for the 2010 Summer Season. Be sure to mention to your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers that we have several payment options available to make it affordable for everyone! Many still believe you need to live in the Oakbrook subdivision to become a member. Get the word out that anyone can join! The contact information for membership is oakbrook1385@gmail.com (or leave a message at 282-9662).
New cards will be made for our newer members. If they’re not be available by the time the pool opens, you may be given temporary cards, but we hope to have the new cards ready by opening day! Older style cards (white credit card size) will continue to be honored for the foreseeable future.
One season rental memberships are available for $500. This offer can only be used for one season as a “trial membership” to determine if you would like to belong to Oakbrook S&T. The next season the purchase of a membership certificate would be required.

OAKBROOK PIRANHAS SWIM AND DIVE TEAM
Okay Oakbrook swimmers and divers; it’s time to get ready to splash and dash! Now that the temperature has gone over 80 degrees, preparations have started for the summer swim/dive season. We are ready for school to be over and fun in the pool to begin.
Greetings from the Parent Board Swim Team
We would like to tell you a little about our
Oakbrook Piranha Swim Team. We have killer fish ranging from 6-18 years
old. Some are fast little swimmers just barely able to swim one lap others
can swim for hours and not even be tired. Some are even also nationally
ranked. All members of Oakbrook are welcome to join the swim team. Summer
is a busy time of year for everyone. It's also the best time of year for
kids to be outside playing and swimming... what better place than at our
Oakbrook Swim and Tennis Club.
Our team is self supporting from the Club. We do
many fund raising and rely heavily on our sponsors. We have a swim-a-thon,
pancake breakfast, car wash and many other activities though out the
summer. There are many preparations that will take place over the winter
months for the team from budgeting, fundraising, sponsors, practice
schedule ( by the way, no Monday or Friday morning practice),
NKSL responsibilities, coaches and fees.
All in
time for a kick off on Memorial Day Weekend. Starting
Saturday May 28th, from 4-8 and
Sunday May 29, from 4-8.
We look forward to meeting some new and old faces from our club and we would
like to introduce our new coaching staff, sign up and pay fees ($75.00).
Our new coaches this year are not really new. Kacey
Holt and Liz Rodgers have been around our pool since they were little fish
in our 8 and under swim group. Liz and Kacey are sophomores at UK and U of
L and have been lifeguards and instructing swim lesson for the past few
years. We look forward to their leadership and new ideas for coaching our
summer team.
Also, new to our coaching staff is our assistant
dive coach Meredith Brownell. Meredith brings tons of experience in her
young life from diving for US Elite Diving Academy. Meredith is nationally
ranked and also trains at Miami University. Meredith was the state runner
up for high school diving this year for Ryle High School and has a very
bright future in diving. Mike Barker will be our head diving coach with his
loads of experience at all age groups.
So if you hear lots of clapping on a Tuesday night at
the pool there's a dive meet going on. If its a Thursday night, the grills
will be fired up cooking hamburgers, Italian sausage and ball park
franks. You'll hear lots of warm up music and cheering for a fun summer
night. We can't promise it will not rain but we can say the kids will have a
good time and that's what summers all about.
We swim and dive at home or away meets against other
swim clubs in our area. You can check out our swim and dive schedule and

Our first meet is new this year is a relay meet at Five Season on June 10th. Each club will be assigned a lane for the night and the kids just dive in and swim. It should be a good time for all.
